If you saw me in in little league or high school you would think “this guy doesn’t have what it takes to get noticed by the next level” ... And you’d be right! I was somewhat undersized and too slow for my position to get noticed to play football in college when I was in HS. I had no scholarships, no “stars”, and I wasn’t listed on any recruiting websites, but still managed to play in college then go on to play professional football spending time at the highest level possible (the NFL). If I can do it... You have better chances than you may think!
I am sure you realize that the college sports industry has EXPLODED within the past 20 years! With NIL deals, social media, and the transfer portal... there is more money pumped into college sports than ever before! So schools ARE NOT nonchalant when it comes to recruiting new talent! Recruiting typically starts as early as the sophomore season for many HS athletes! By the time your senior year begins, it's almost too late! What does that mean? You need to get on scouts' radars ASAP!
Unfortunately most parents and athletes hope that a scout will show up to a game (hoping to see some local talent) and then will notice how good the athlete played and from there the offers come in! I hate to break it to you... but the days of scouts showing up to just watch teams play and see if they find talent at their local HS's are LONG GONE! This is important for you to know, because if you want to play at the next level how are you suppose to get noticed?! I'll tell you... combines!
I know what you're thinking! "But a combine doesn't show everything!" And you're absolutely right! But that's the hard truth of the matter! Even at the NFL level! There were plenty of players in college that had better stats and more awards than I did, but my NFL combine numbers were exceptional and I got brought in while other guys didn't.
The sad reality for the parents and athletes that already know how this new era of recruiting works is that they will go to a trainer that promises to get them faster... What they don't realize is that 98% of trainers do 1 of 2 things:
1.) The ex-athlete trainer who was a genetic freak of nature just puts the athlete on a workout they did when they were younger and the athlete (who is NOT a genetic freak of nature) doesn't any benefit...
2.) A trainer who "works with NFL, NBA, and Olympic athletes" just uses a copy and paste model for all the athletes that come in. Then had a professional athlete came and trained with them for a week and now the trainer acts as if they are the one that got the athlete bigger, faster and stronger...
This leaves the hard working athletes and parents that are willing to put in the blood, sweat, and MONEY on the table hoping to get results years down that they never see.
I dedicated years of my life to figuring out the true ins-and-outs of speed, and gaining size and strength! I tried multiple “speed and strength programs” out there.
